Where did I leave off last time? Well shortly after posting the last blog post, maternal fetal medicine came by and said that I needed to have the baby tomorrow and I would be induced later that evening. Around 6:30 my doctor started me on a pitocin drip to start contractions. My blood pressure was still very high so she started me on a magnesium sulfide drip around 3 am and broke my water shortly after that. The magnesium sulfide made me feel like I was in Hades and swimming in an ice pool would do nothing to help me. Having her break my water was disgusting and all I can say about that is I'm glad it happened there and not at home or even worse in public.
Contractions definitely got worse after she broke my water and I had an epidural around 8 am. My anesthesiologist said that I was in the zone for it because I didn't move at all. I knew I didn't want him to have to stick me twice! My blood pressure stayed pretty high all day which was a concern to the doctors and nurses. Around 2:30 (I think) I started feeling bad and I couldn't really explain how I felt just not good. I told the nurse my chest hurt when I took a deep breath and they ordered a chest x-ray and blood work. The phelobtomist had a hard time finding a vein since I was so swollen and at that point I quit responding to everyone. I could hear them asking me questions, but couldn't move or answer them. I could see the concern on everyone's faces and then about 20 more staff entered the room trying to figure out what was wrong with me. I felt better a little while later and was able to respond to the staff at that point. The doctor examined me at I made it to 10 cm and it was time to push. I pushed a few times and the baby's heart tones started to drop. I was given oxygen and pushed a little more but didn't make any real progress. The doctor decided it was time for a c-section.
Everyone got ready and Bryan put on his cute scrubs which was his only request about the delivery so I blame him for the need for a c-section. I was brought to the OR and Finn James O'Connor was born at 5:10 on Friday, March 22, 2013. He weighed 5 pounds 1 ounce and was 19 inches long. The NICU team was present at delivery to examine him and said he looked great. I started throwing up when the doctor was sewing me up which caused things to last a little longer in there. Finn never needed to go to the NICU which we are so grateful for.
We made it home late Monday evening and are so excited and nervous to start our journey as a little family. I will make another post with pictures once I get them uploaded to the computer, but I wanted to get this post up before I forget everything that happened.
